Farewell to the famous 60-year-old Chinese desserts shop in Sham Shui Po, Kwan Kee Store 坤記士多, which their owner announced his retirement in May.


Kwan Kee Store in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong, is famous for its traditional Chinese desserts, particularly their "Put Chai Ko" (砵仔糕) and "White Sugar Cake" (白糖糕). These desserts have garnered a loyal following due to their authentic taste, craftsmanship, and quality ingredients.


Put Chai Ko (砵仔糕) is a steamed rice pudding made from rice flour, wheat starch, and brown sugar. It is typically flavored with red beans. The pudding is steamed in small porcelain or aluminum bowls, giving it a unique shape and texture. Kwan Kee Store is well-known for its Put Chai Ko because they have maintained the traditional recipe and methods of preparation, resulting in a delicate, smooth texture and a perfectly balanced sweetness.


White Sugar Cake (白糖糕) is another popular dessert at Kwan Kee Store. It is a steamed cake made from rice flour, white sugar, and water. The cake has a soft, slightly chewy texture and a mild sweetness.


Apart from these famous desserts, Kwan Kee Store also offers other traditional Chinese snacks and sweets such as Sesame Puddings as well as snacks for Chinese New Year. However their 67-year-old owner has announced his retirement which the shop may be closed permanently in May.
