The Largest Exhibition of Yayoi Kusama Outside Japan Celebrates M+’s First Anniversary in Hong Kong

To celebrate Hong Kong’s M+ Museum’s first anniversary, 12 Nov 2022,

M+ announced the museum’s first Special Exhibition, Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now, for 6 months through to 14 May 2023.


This Special Exhibition is the largest retrospective of Yayoi Kusama in Asia outside Japan, comprising more than 200 works from major collections from museums and private collections in Asia, Europe, and the United States, the M+ Collection, as well as from the artist’s own collection.


Known for her pumpkins, dots, and mirrored spaces, Yayoi Kusama emerged as a global cultural icon for the 21st century by pursuing her uncompromising avant-garde vision. Over the past seven decades, she honed a singular personal aesthetic and core philosophy of life. Kusama’s work captivates millions by offering glimpses of boundless space and reflections on natural cycles of regeneration. Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now narrates the story of this artist’s life and work, foregrounding her longing for interconnection and the profound questions about existence that drive her creative explorations.
