Not Ladies’ Market, This is Gentlemen’s Market in Hong Kong!?

People always ask “there is Ladies Market in Mong Kok, is there a Men’s Market in Hong Kong?”. The answer is “No”but also a “Yes”. There is really no market with official name “Men’s Market” but actually the market in Apliu Street, Sham Shui Po is just the perfect Men’s market. Over the years the stalls in the area sell the latest, most popular and budget gadgets and electronics.

I remember thirty years ago when game consoles like Nintendo became popular, I would come to Apliu Street to look for game ROM cartridges (they used to sell both original and copies). When Internet and PC emerged, I would buy accessories like CD-R, or cables from here. In smartphone eras, they started to sell phone cases and gadgets like cheap Bluetooth speakers.

Even though online shopping is very common now. This area of Apliu Street is still popular like before. This market is definitely more local than Ladies’ Market which has become a tourist spot selling souvenir.

I would call this market “Gentlemen’s Market” rather than “Men’s Market” because I am one of the regular visitors over the years.

In addition to the flea market and shops, Apliu Street is also located near other popular attractions in Sham Shui Po, such as the Golden Computer Arcade, which is a popular destination for computer and gaming enthusiasts.

Overall, Apliu Street is a unique and vibrant destination in Hong Kong, offering visitors a glimpse into the city's history and culture. It is a great place to shop, eat, and explore, and it is a must-visit for anyone looking for a truly authentic Hong Kong experience.
