Three Kingdoms Themed Fried Chicken Shop in Hong Kong!

It is quite difficult to explain in English why this shop has a cosplayer dressing like Guan Yu selling fried chicken in Hong Kong. I will try my best. Or you can just skip to the end- the fried chicken is freaking delicious, go try it out.

Basically the shop is playing homophonic puns. The Shop’s name is “流髀”, which means “Flowing Chicken Leg” (the word “Flowing” doesn’t have much meaning), 流髀’s Cantonese pronunciation sounds the same as “Lau Bei/ Liu Bei 劉備”, one of the famous heroes in classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It is famous that Liu Bei has two sworn brothers, “Zhang Fei” & “Guan Yu”. When customers buy chicken at the shop, they need to grab a ticket and wait. “Grab a ticket” in Cantonese is “攞張飛”, which “張飛” shares the same Chinese characters with the name of another sworn brother “Zhang Fei” (張飛). Therefore the owner also dresses himself as the other sworn brother “Guan Yu” (關羽) in order to make the jokes of the famous three sworn brother heroes appearing together.

I call myself as “Cao Cao” 曹操 in this because it is another warlord in the novel who is the enemy of Liu Bei.

I am not sure if non-Chinese speakers would understand what I mean, maybe you are totally lost. Just go grab a chicken leg or it will make you understand. It is in a delicious Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng flavour. I haven’t tried eating a deep-fried chicken leg while walking on the street for a long long time. Damn it feels so good-
