The East Coast Boardwalk in North Point has completed the missing link along Hong Kong Island’s waterfront, creating a continuous promenade of around 13 kilometres from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan. This makes it one of the best places in Hong Kong for a long harbourfront walk, jog, or cycle with iconic views of Victoria Harbour.

What Is the East Coast Boardwalk?

The East Coast Boardwalk is a 2.2‑kilometre promenade built underneath the Island Eastern Corridor, divided into an eastern and western section of about 1.1 kilometres each. With both sections now open, visitors can enjoy a seamless harbourfront route that links the East Coast Park, North Point Promenade and Quarry Bay’s Hoi Yu Street.

Designed as a Harbourfront Shared Space, the Boardwalk welcomes walkers, joggers, cyclists, families, and pet owners to enjoy an open, car‑free waterfront environment. It also connects easily into the longer Kennedy Town–Shau Kei Wan harbourfront, making it ideal for longer walks and urban hikes.

Key Features and Highlights

The Eastern Section mirrors the Western Section by opening 24 hours a day, with the exception of one feature: the glass observatory deck. Along the route you will find viewing spots, open spaces and art, all arranged to maximise Victoria Harbour views while staying shaded under the flyover.

Highlights include:

- Experiential glass observatory deck. A platform with glass flooring that lets visitors look directly down to the harbour water beneath the Boardwalk; it opens daily from 10am to 6pm and closes during bad weather, with shoe covers provided on site for safety and glass protection.

- Multi‑functional open spaces. Areas for exhibitions, art, and community events, featuring installations by local artists and graphics of marine life plus the Eastern District mascot “Dong Dong” on the bridge piers.

- Small plaza at Quarry Bay end: A plaza and widened footpath at Hoi Yu Street improve accessibility and provide extra gathering space near the eastern end.

A movable bascule bridge has also been installed near Man Hong Street to support marine operations, carefully balancing harbour use and public enjoyment.

Pet‑Friendly Harbourfront & Shared Path

Like the Western Section, the Eastern Section follows a pet‑friendly and shared‑space concept so people and pets can enjoy the harbourfront together. There is a designated pet‑friendly area near Tin Chiu Street where visitors and their leashed pets can relax before heading onto the Boardwalk itself.

The promenade uses a shared path system that supports strolling, jogging and cycling, with an additional dedicated walkway for pedestrians who prefer a calmer lane. This setup makes the Boardwalk attractive for morning runners, evening couples’ walks and family outings all along the same route.

Access Points and How to Get There

The Eastern Section can be reached via multiple access points from North Point and Quarry Bay, all within a few minutes’ walk from MTR stations. From west to east, the five current access points are:

- Turn right from Shu Kuk Street towards North Point Promenade (about 4 minutes from North Point MTR Exit A1).

- Pedestrian ramp at Java Road next to the North Point Vehicular Ferry Pier (about 5 minutes from North Point MTR Exit A1).

- Link bridge from Man Hong Street (about 8 minutes from North Point MTR Exit A1).

- Link bridge from Healthy Street East (about 5 minutes from Quarry Bay MTR Exit C; a stair lift for wheelchair users will be added later).

- Via Hoi Yu Street (about 5 minutes from Quarry Bay MTR Exit C).

An additional access point with a lift and staircase next to Tin Chiu Street Playground will further improve accessibility once it opens.

Why Visit the East Coast Boardwalk

For anyone searching for best promenades in Hong Kong, Victoria Harbour walks, things to do in North Point and Quarry Bay, the completed East Coast Boardwalk is a top pick. It offers a rare combination of uninterrupted harbour views, pet‑friendly spaces, community art, and easy MTR access along a fully connected island‑side waterfront route.

Whether planning a long harbourfront walk from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan, a sunset jog, or a relaxed family outing with pets, the East Coast Boardwalk showcases a new side of Hong Kong’s urban coastline that is now fully open for everyone to explore.
