Century-old Duddell Street Gas Lamps Severely Damaged
Three of the last four gas lights in Hong Kong were damaged by Super Typhoon "Mangkhut" on 16th September, 2018.
It is believed that between 1875 and 1889 Duddell Street Steps in Central were built, and since then four gas lamps surmount the balustrades at the top and foot of the steps. The steps and the lights are now declared monuments in Hong Kong and have become a popular site of movies shootings and Instagram photos. The lights are lit by the gas company every day at 6pm as objects of historical interest.
However, on 16th September, 2018, strongest typhoon since record began "Mangkhut" hit Hong Kong, three of the four gas lamps and parts of the balustrades were severely damaged caused by fallen trees nearby.

Since the steps and gas lamps are declared monuments, they will probably be repaired by experts hired by the government. However the period of restoration is yet to know.
